During a recent visit to Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his anticipation of an upcoming meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This sentiment was conveyed as Putin welcomed India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to the Kremlin. Putin extended his best regards to Modi and suggested that their next encounter might coincide with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation events. Additionally, the Russian leader is anticipated to attend the BRICS summit in New Delhi this September.
The discussions between Putin and Jaishankar underscored the strengthening trade relations between Russia and India. Notably, Putin emphasized the increase in Russia’s fertiliser exports to India, affirming Moscow’s willingness to further expand these supplies. This move signifies a pivotal development in bilateral trade, reflecting the growing economic partnership between the two nations.
In a separate meeting, Jaishankar engaged with Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov to explore avenues for enhancing trade and economic cooperation. Manturov highlighted the potential for localizing nuclear fuel production in India, which could mark a significant step in advancing energy collaboration between the countries.
Throughout his visit, Jaishankar is also scheduled to hold discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. These talks are expected to cover a range of topics, including bilateral relations and current regional and global issues, further solidifying the diplomatic ties between India and Russia.
