Google has expanded its AI capabilities in the Chrome browser to Android users in India, introducing Gemini, a set of AI-powered browsing features. This update enhances the user experience by enabling tasks such as summarizing webpages and connecting information across various Google services directly within the browser.
Gemini in Chrome functions as an AI assistant, allowing Android users to access features including webpage summaries, integration with services like Gmail and Calendar, and image generation. Additionally, Google is rolling out a more advanced auto-browse feature for both desktop and Android users who are subscribed to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra plans in India.
The auto-browse feature empowers the AI to navigate websites and complete tasks on behalf of users, such as comparing products, finding deals, booking event tickets, making restaurant reservations, and scheduling appointments. This capability is designed to handle complex, multi-step tasks that would typically require manual navigation across multiple webpages.
Recognizing the potential risks of AI interacting directly with websites, Google has implemented safety measures to mitigate these risks. Gemini is equipped to detect threats like prompt-injection attempts, and users may need to confirm sensitive actions before completion. These safeguards are essential, especially when the AI is capable of submitting forms or making transactions on a user’s behalf.
The number of multi-step tasks users can perform with the auto-browse feature is contingent on their subscription level. Google AI Pro subscribers can execute up to 20 multi-step requests per day, whereas Google AI Ultra subscribers have a higher limit of up to 200 requests daily. Through this expansion, Google aims to enhance the functionality of AI within Chrome, moving beyond simple queries to facilitating diverse web-based tasks.
