In a bid to bolster economic ties, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal engaged in separate discussions with Finland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Riikka Purra, as well as Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto. These meetings were aimed at enhancing trade and investment relations between India and Finland.
The dialogues centered around increasing collaboration in pivotal sectors such as digitalisation, innovation, research and development, and fostering startups and business partnerships. Both parties expressed a keen interest in expanding cooperation in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, 6G, quantum technologies, semiconductors, space, and sustainability.
A significant aspect of these talks was the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The discussions highlighted how this pact could potentially boost bilateral trade, draw in more investments, and provide new avenues for businesses in both countries.
These meetings occur as India and the European Union continue their negotiations on a comprehensive trade agreement. The aim is to fortify economic relations and enhance cooperation across strategic sectors, which is seen as vital for both regions in navigating future economic landscapes.
