Brad Pitt is set to reprise his role as Cliff Booth from Quentin Tarantino’s acclaimed 2019 film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, in a new film directed by David Fincher. The spin-off, titled The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, will debut with a two-week global IMAX run starting November 25, before arriving on Netflix for streaming on December 23. The film will delve deeper into the life of Booth, a Hollywood stuntman with a shadowy background, as he navigates the evolving landscape of the film industry.
Quentin Tarantino, who directed the original film, has penned the screenplay for this new project but has opted not to direct it, maintaining his stance against concluding his directorial career with a sequel. The storyline continues in 1977, eight years after the events of the original film, and will chart Booth’s adaptation to the markedly different Hollywood of that era.
The film boasts a star-studded ensemble cast alongside Brad Pitt, including Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis, and Karren Karagulian. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which starred Pitt alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie, was set against the backdrop of late 1960s Los Angeles.
Helming the director’s chair for this spin-off is David Fincher, known for his work on films such as Fight Club, Zodiac, The Social Network, and Gone Girl, as well as Netflix series like House of Cards and Mindhunter. Fincher’s involvement promises to bring a fresh creative perspective to the project, distinguishing it from Tarantino’s directorial style.
This new chapter in the Cliff Booth saga represents a significant reunion between Pitt and the beloved character created by Tarantino.
