India and Poland are set to deepen their cooperation across several strategic sectors, including defense, nuclear energy, and advanced technologies. This development follows discussions between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, focusing on expanding economic ties and increasing bilateral trade to $12.6 billion by 2030.

The leaders emphasized joint development and production opportunities in critical areas such as defense equipment, space technology, and nuclear energy. Discussions also covered collaboration in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, fintech, and critical minerals, aiming to bolster economic security by diversifying access to strategic resources.

Modi extended an invitation to Polish companies to engage in co-development and co-production with India, while Tusk highlighted the significance of securing access to critical minerals. The meeting also underscored plans to establish a bilateral startup bridge and explore partnerships in coal gasification and critical minerals.

Defense cooperation emerged as a key priority, with both nations working towards an agreement on the protection and exchange of classified information to facilitate closer defense-industrial collaboration. Plans are in place to establish a defense industry dialogue and a counterterrorism dialogue, alongside exploring joint manufacturing of military equipment, drones, and satellite technologies.

On the global stage, regional and international issues, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict, were also addressed. Modi reiterated India’s support for diplomatic efforts towards peace, while Polish officials welcomed India’s advocacy for a negotiated solution to the Ukraine crisis. The historical ties between the two countries were also highlighted, referencing Poland’s support for Indian students evacuated from Ukraine in 2022 and the aid offered to Polish refugees in India during World War II.

Overall, the meeting signifies a significant step forward in strengthening India-Poland relations, aiming to expand trade, enhance strategic cooperation, and build resilient supply chains, further benefiting from the broader strategic partnership between India and the European Union.
