In an effort to combat fraud and enhance identity verification, Maharashtra has mandated Aadhaar authentication for registering immovable property documents starting October 1. This requirement spans 63 types of registrations, including sales, purchases, mortgages, and partition deeds, according to Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule.
The primary aim of this move is to reduce incidences of impersonation, fake documentation, and human intervention during the registration process. For those without an Aadhaar number, proof of application for Aadhaar, along with other government-issued identity documents, will be necessary. The information provided will be verified before the transaction can be completed.
Special provisions have been made for minors and certain eligible categories, ensuring that children without an Aadhaar number are not denied property registration benefits due solely to the absence of the identification number.
The government asserts that this new system will make property registration more secure, transparent, and efficient. By implementing Aadhaar authentication, the process is expected to be streamlined and the scope for fraudulent activities significantly reduced.
